Farm Sector Development Program

This program is aimed at enhancing the productivity and profitability of farmers through introduction of new techniques and processes and through developing market linkages. Volunteers will also encourage the farmers to take pride in their work and appreciate the great importance of their work. Specific intervention areas are provided below.

  • Volunteers may leverage Information Technology to improve farmers’ productivity and connectivity to the marketplace. Specifically, they may develop mobile applications for farmers and online platforms for trading agricultural commodities or they may assist government’s initiatives in these areas.
  • Volunteers may  assist local NGOs/CBOs in introducing new agricultural processes, technologies and international best practices to the local farmer community
  • Volunteers may assist local NGOs build community’s capacity for apiculture, horticulture, sericulture, mushroom cultivation, floriculture and fisheries, to name a few.
  • Volunteers may also assist organizations like Chinmaya Organization for Rural Development (CORD) in:
    • promoting and introducing the farmers to low cost and environment friendly agricultural techniques
    • promoting organic methods of farming which utilize vermin compost and environmental friendly herbicides, pesticides and fertilizers
