Folk Dances

Jhamakada is a group dance native to the Kangra District of Himachal Pradesh. It is performed exclusively by the women folk during a wedding or a sacred thread ceremony. The dance is accompanied by a variety of percussion instruments and lyrical songs. The women dress as men and enact various incidents of life. Men are not permitted to watch the performance that takes place throughout the night.  In case they are found peeping into the show, they have to face punishments, which are of humorous nature, reflecting the true spirit of the occasion.
