Non-Farm and Service Sector Development Program

This program is aimed at building non-farm capacity in the local community through various trainings and measures listed below. Apart from working with us, we can also place the volunteers with Chinmaya Organization for Rural Development (CORD) who engage in similar non-farm capacity development. Our program focuses on helping individuals in the community engage in alternate means of income generation through inherent traditional and acquired skills.

  • Volunteers may assist trainers in building capacities of the beneficiaries for production of products with the right designs, appropriate pricing and packaging
  • Volunteers may also impart education to beneficiaries on maintaining records & accounts
  • Volunteers can also assist trainers in conducting supply chain training - right from procuring of raw materials to marketing of finished products.
  • Volunteers are encouraged to facilitate market linkages for beneficiaries through personal contacts or cold introductions to potential suppliers and buyers.
  • Volunteers may also impart entrepreneurship skills to the beneficiaries so that they can run their micro enterprise smoothly
  • Volunteers also assist trainers in helping differently-abled youth acquire income generation capabilities by imparting training in Hand Crochet, Hand Embroidered Bedcovers & Pillow covers, stitching & embroidery, hand knitting and Kangra Miniature Paintings (esp. for hearing impaired artists).
  • Volunteers assist local government organizations, NGOs and Community Based Organizations in building self-employment skills among locals that would enable them to be tourist guides or make globally marketable handicrafts or bakery products, to name a few.
  • Some of the non-farm products that can be focused upon include denim kit bags, handloom woven shawls, men’s kurtas, ladies suits and Kangra miniature paintings.
