Rehabilitation Program for the Differently-Abled

This program is aimed at building capacity of local NGOs and Community Based Organizations (CBO) who are providing services for the differently-abled. As part of this program, volunteers may:

  • Assist local NGOs/CBOs in physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and audiometry (used to diagnose hearing loss or diseases of the ear)
  • Engage in special education and play therapy for the differently-abled (Note: Play therapy is a form of counseling or psychotherapy that uses play to communicate with and help people, especially children, to prevent or resolve psychosocial challenges. This is thought to help them towards better social integration, growth and development)
  • Assist trainers in helping disabled youth acquire income generation capabilities by imparting training in hand crochet, hand embroidered bed covers & pillow covers, stitching & embroidery, hand knitting and Kangra miniature paintings (especially for the hearing impaired artists).
  • Assist in organizing district-level sports events (e.g. Special Olympics) for the differently-abled
