Yuva Kendra (Youth Club)

Youth Clubs are village based organizations working for community development and youth empowerment. These are composed of young members between the age group of 13-35 years. The programs and activities of the youth clubs are based on the local community needs. These clubs mobilize resources from various government departments and other agencies, which include both national, state level and multilateral institutions. Some of the Yuva Kendras in Dharamsala are the Sidh Youth Club in Sidhbari village (25 Males; 0 Female), Sahyog Yuva Mandal in Khanyara village (30 Males; 0 Female), Trigart Kala Manch Dharamshala in Cheliyan village (15 Males; 20 Females) and Yuva Hind Club in Chandmari village (20 Males; 14 Females) and Dev Bhoomi Yuva Mandal in Sidhpur village (25 Males; 0 Female).

In the year 1987-88, Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan(NYKS) was set up as an autonomous organization under the Government of India, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, to oversee working of these Kendras. NYKS is one of the largest grassroots level organization one of its kind in the world. The Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan has more than 500 district level offices; 216,000 village level youth clubs; and 8 million rural youth affiliated to it.  NYKS channelizes the power of youth who are in the age group of 13-35 years on the principles of voluntarism, self-help and community participation.

Volunteers will get an opportunity to see the various activities undertaken by Youth clubs and how they mobilize various resources from various departments and institutions.
